Undraleu® FAQ

Can we just take the tool without the best practices?

In the highly unlikely scenario where the library of best practices available in Undraleu® are not something you want, we can discuss with you on your code review requirements and best practices and develop them for you. This will be a T&M engagement and will be dealt as a separate service request.

How long will it take to add a new best practice in the tool?

While we expect a best practice to be developed, tested and a patch made available for its release to take no more than a week, we will have to balance development of new best practices along with the enhancements around Undraleu®. It also depends on the complexity of the best practice and whether it is fundamentally consistent with our best practices and implementation. We would endeavour to address those best practices that are frequently requested by multiple clients as a higher priority.

I think we would benefit a lot from having Undraleu® but need help in quantifying the benefits of Undraleu® for creating a business case, can you assist?

There are some clear benefits from using Undraleu® that include all the benefits you expect by following set best practices. However, there are some hard to measure benefits that we can’t quantify examples include reduction in support, maintenance and on-call costs. However, please contact us and we can discuss the best way forward.

Is Undraleu® easy to learn?

It can’t get easier, Login, select the code, select the rule list and run the report. This is all it takes to use Undraleu®. We understand, the last thing an ETL shop wants is another tool that takes a lot of learning. Undraleu® does not need any training. It is self-explanatory. While we can conduct group classes to train your developers in using Undraleu®, we believe the simplicity of the tool makes it impossible to justify a course.

We don’t believe that a tool can manage our code reviews better than our current and traditional reviews which are very thorough. Why should we consider Undraleu®?

While there are development shops which are very well structured and conduct code reviews thoroughly, in all possibility it is a manual review. Such shops which pride themselves in their personnel and code reviews can benefit even further by automating their code reviews and spare themselves with at least a few hours of the time they spend in performing the code reviews and address more projects and improve their overall value from their stake holders perspective. In short, using Undraleu®, you can develop more of the good code you have been developing without Undraleu®.

What are the licensing options?

We want to keep the licensing options simple, flexible and accommodative. However, keeping best practices in perspective, we feel that all clients must use Undraleu® in their development environments. However, where there are issues in production environment, we also recommend using Undraleu® to get an overview of all the major problems and create a project to fix any findings in production and at the same time learn from those findings to not repeat those issues in new code. The licensing is per server and per development repository as a minimum. Extra repositories can be added for QA, Production environments. The extra repositories are available at a discount after the development repository. With each of the repositories we allow unlimited number of folders and Undraleu® projects. We understand that no two shops have similar requirement so we can discuss any specific requirements and customize accordingly.

Who are your competitors in this area?

We are the only one currently in this area. Our patent pending concept is very unique and allows flexibility, structure and an intuitive method of code reviews that hinge around best practices that were chosen.

Will my best practices stop working when we migrate to a new version of Informatica PowerCenter?

No, most of the checks are version independent. However, we will provide communications to all our clients on any possible hurdles well in advance and provide roadmaps to migrations. We expect any enhancements to be minimally disruptive to your normal operations around Undraleu®. We hope to work very closely with Informatica and develop and test the best practices as soon as Informatica announces new releases. In a highly unlikely scenario where clients require migrating ahead of our having certified the checks against the new release of Informatica PowerCenter, we will discuss this with the client to provide them a least disruption course of action.

Will we need a separate license for Undraleu® database repository?

It is most likely that you have a database repository if you have Informatica PowerCenter. If your contract/license agreement does not allow you another database schema we recommend using MySQL which is supported by Undraleu® and comes free of cost being open source. However, kindly note this database while low in maintenance, will also require some backup strategy and if it is a new database in your environment, your costs of having personnel to monitor and support it may well surpass the cost in adding a new database/schema using your existing database vendor. Alternatively we can discuss options where we can maintain this database for you at an additional service cost.
